Meili Snow Mountains.

In late November 2019, I returned to Jinghong in China. This time hoping to travel further into China to where the Mekong enters Yunnan province from Tibet. Independent travel in China although not impossible is difficult so I decided on hiring a driver/ guide. With help from my guesthouse owner and his English to Mandarin phone app, we booked a flight to Dali. After spending the night in a Tibetan guesthouse I met Mr. Mu and we set off to Shangri-la. A day’s drive from Shangri-la we got our first look at the magnificent Meili Snow Mountains. Sacred and unclimbed they are the highest mountain range in Yunnan. Kawagebo has the highest peak at 6,470 metres. These glaciers help feed the Mekong river in the valley below.
