From my travels in Myanmar in 2015. Myitkyina was at the time the furthest north you were permitted to travel in Myanmar. It was unlawful for foreigners to travel to Myitkyina by road or rail, flying there was the only option. I arrived early one morning at the riverside market to watch the canoes of produce arrive before being unloaded and carried up into the market to be sold. You can view Myitkyina’s location here
